The Elevated Woodland

The Elevated Woodland Plot is located on a downslope directly to the left of the trail in the Coker Pinetum that passes directly behind Eringhaus Dorm.  This plot seems to have a wide discrepency in ages of trees, implying a healthy development.  Many of the older trees tower to heights over 100 feet tall and have substantial trunks, while some of the young saplings that are dispersed within the plot are smaller than 10 feet.  There are many examples of different tree species, with sugar maples being the most dominant.  There is one substantial short leaf pine that towers above the rest of the plot, but the majority of other trees are hardwood trees like white and red oak, mockernut hickory, and sugar and red maple.  A full list of found tree species and their sizes is included on subsequent pages.
